There's something special about cats, the way they move, the way they stare. And when you learn how to love them as they deserve—groom them, give them good food and scratch them, and offer them a litter box—you have created a bond that's hard to break.

Sure, cats can be fickle—they may ungratefully ignore you when they're having a bad day—but when they purr or rest their chin on your finger, they let you know that you really matter in their lives.

A story of a cat

Lulu the cat loved nothing more than a good nap in a sunny spot. She would often curl up on the windowsill in the living room, and soak up the warmth of the sun as she dozed. On one particular day, Lulu was enjoying her nap when she was rudely awoken by a loud noise. It sounded like something was crashing around in the kitchen. Lulu slowly got to her feet and stretched, then made her way to the kitchen to see what was going on.

As she approached, she could hear the sound of glass breaking and someone cursing. She rounded the corner to see a large, hairy man rummaging through the cupboards. It was clear he was looking for something, but Lulu had no idea what. She considered just running away and hiding, but her curiosity got the better of her. She stepped out from her hiding spot and meowed at the man.

The man turned around, and Lulu was startled to see that he had a large knife in his hand. "What do you want?" the man snarled.

Lulu wasn't sure what to say. She didn't want to get too close to the man, but she also wanted to find out what he was looking for. She meowed again, this time louder and more insistent.

The man sighed and put down the knife. "I'm looking for the missing piece to my puzzle," he said. "I've been searching for it for weeks, but I can't seem to find it anywhere."

Lulu had no idea what a puzzle was, but she knew that she didn't have the missing piece. She meowed again, trying to communicate that to the man, but he just sighed and picked up the knife again. "I guess I'll just have to keep looking," he said. "You might as well just go back to sleep, there's nothing here for you."

And with that, the man left the kitchen, leaving Lulu to wonder what a puzzle was and where the man might find the missing piece.
