The girl sat alone on the bench, her head in her hands. She was tired, so tired. It felt like she had been sitting there for hours, days even. She wasn't sure how long she had been there, but it felt like forever. She wanted to get up, to walk away, but she couldn't. It was like her body was frozen in place. She tried to summon the energy to stand, but it was like trying to lift a mountain.
She wasn't sure how she had ended up there. She remembered leaving her house, her car. She remembered driving, but after that everything was a blur. The next thing she knew she was waking up on the bench, her head throbbing. She had no idea how long she had been out, but it must have been hours. She tried to stand again, but she still couldn't. It was like her body just didn't want to move.
She looked around, trying to see if anyone was coming. She was in a park, she could see that much. But it was dark and she couldn't see much else. She called out, but her voice was weak and no one answered. She was alone.
She leaned back against the bench, her eyes closing. She was so tired, she just wanted to sleep. Maybe if she slept, she would wake up and this would all be a dream. Maybe she would wake up and she would be home in her bed, safe and sound. Maybe she would wake up and she would be anywhere but here.
She must have dozed off, because the next thing she knew, she was being shaken awake. She opened her eyes to see a police officer standing over her. He asked her if she was okay, but she couldn't answer. She tried to stand, but her legs were like jelly. The officer helped her to her feet and asked her what her name was.
She told him her name, but she couldn't remember her address. She couldn't remember anything. The officer asked her if she knew where she was, but she didn't. She looked around, trying to see something familiar, but nothing looked familiar to her.
The officer asked her if she had any family he could call, but she couldn't remember their numbers either. She shook her head, her eyes filling with tears. She was lost, completely lost.
The officer called for a ambulance and soon she was being loaded into the back of it. She was still so tired, but she couldn't fall asleep. She just stared blankly ahead, her mind a complete blank. She had no idea what was going to happen to her, but she knew it wasn't going to be good.
